| The Art of Jewelry: Polymer Clay: Techniques, Projects, Inspiration |
| Polymer clay is one of the most popular and versatile mediums available to crafters, lending itself to a variety of applications ranging from decorative boxes, mosaics and miniature models to beads, buttons and jewelry. This comprehensive book features step-by-step instruction including exciting ways to work with new materials such as liquid and metal clays. Some of the outstanding artists have come together to both showcase their work and provide lessons on creating some very beautiful pieces. What is nice about this book is that it shows that even simple techniques can produce high-quality work. The techniques range from very basic to very complex. It is eye-opening how a substance used to make white plumbing pipe can be transformed with unusual techniques by skilled artisans. |
| Under Aimone's remarkable tutelage, polymer clay, which is referred as PVC in this book, becomes Italian millefiore beads, shiny abstract cuffs, intricate log-cabin quilt pins, and even calla lily-like earrings. Although other instructional polymer clay books exist, up to now all have focused on basic shapes and elemental design. The 14 selected artists do themselves proud by creating 33 items worthy of display and sale in any fine jewelry store. Instructions are almost complete, with enough visuals to follow--with the exception of a defined level of difficulty for each. And the pages upon pages of galleries showcase the beauties of a once-modest material. The project information is very complete, with easy to follow instructions and photos, and the examples are inspiring.
