Making Flower Polymer Clay Beads
The first steps to making a flower pattern polymer clay bead are to prepare the clay. After preparing the polymer clay for use, the first step in creating flower pattern beads is to select your colors. A flower patterned bead must be made of at least two colors of polymer clay, though three is just as popular. One color will be for the center of the flower, one for the petals, and the third to fill in the spaces between the petals. The flower pattern is relatively easy to create with polymer clay. Begin by rolling one color of clay out in a long, even log. This will be the center of the flower. The next step is to make five long logs using the color of clay for the flower petals. These logs should be smaller in diameter than the center log. Lay out these logs so that the flower design logs are surrounding the center log in a regular five-pointed pattern. Do not squish them together, as this will disfigure the flower petal shapes.
In order to fill in the gaps between the flower petals, you should pick a third color for the background. Make logs of this color that are narrow enough to fit between the outside edges of the flowers. These should be placed evenly around the outside of the polymer clay flower and squished gently into place. The final step in creating the clay flower bead pattern is rolling the log gently so all layers of clay is fused together. Once you have your flower patterned log of polymer clay, you must fashion the beads you want to make your jewelry or other craft project out of. Using a sharp craft knife or piece of narrow wire, slice the log into disc-shaped pieces. With a wire, poke a hole through the side of the circle so that the bead can be strung on cord or string. Finally, bake the polymer clay flower beads according to the manufacturer's directions.
